Tips For Giving Thanks to Your Employees

The spirit of giving thanks around Thanksgiving time doesn’t need to end after the holiday. Thanksgiving is a great reminder to be thankful for the people in your life – not just family, but co-workers and employees as well.

While many of us are preoccupied looking forward to spending time with family around the holiday, often times we fail to remember to give thanks to those we spend most of our time with during the day. Here are some ways that managers and employees alike can show their thanks during the winter holiday months.

Another great way to show thanks is to publicly acknowledge your co-workers accomplishments.

In the age of email and Slack, in-person greetings mean more than ever. There is no better way to show your appreciation than physically saying “thank you” to those who have helped you out at work. As simple as it sounds, taking the extra minute on your walk to the coffee machine and over to your coworkers desk to give thanks can mean much more than a Slack message.

Another great way to show thanks is to publicly acknowledge your co-workers accomplishments. Whether it be internally through your Reflektive recognition wall, or via a Slack channel, public recognition go a really long way with employees.

Study after study show us that employees hold recognition in the workplace much higher than they do compensation or benefits, but each year employees increasingly feel underappreciated. In fact, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, 88 percent of employees stated a lack of recognition as their top work issue.

So, take the extra few minutes this holiday season to recognize your employees and coworkers because you don’t know how much it could mean to them.
